Carnival of Medievalism

For something you did out of boredom, it has a grim appeal to it, like a techno-gothic carnival with shoddy, run-down ferris wheels and haunted houses with shattered fun mirrors. It definitely sounds like a video game track, thematically consistent with this description. In a word: interesting.

PenguinBomb responds:

Haha awesome description, I've also heard that it sounds like harry potter :p

I'm a Fan of You.

The thought crossed my mind when I clicked, although I knew you from previous submissions to the portal and figured you made a decent rearrangement of Legend of Zelda music that could easily get on OCR or VGMix or a DoD competition.

In any case, this is psychedelic harshness with a story to tell, and the mastering of the sound is expertly done as usual. Good for you, and everyone else too.

PenguinBomb responds:

Haha I like your insight into the music, very interesting, thanks for all the reviews!!

Repetitive is Okay

Think outside the box. Several sections of a repetitive song can be made into game loops for an action game. Also, your "Bring the Pain", with Metaljonus' aid, became stellar and you considered it perfect after his tampering. If you think something sucks but still sounds okay, you're perfectly free when you call something a work-in-progress. Also, this song sounds ready for lyrics.

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

Thanks man, you are right!

Thanks for the review!!

WTF?

You deleted THIS song?

....

I'm fucking speechless. Even the piss-poor work is good. If you're worried about your main profile, why not port the questionable material to your other profile?

This song, should you know, is good. Trouble is near the end--it cuts too abruptly--but either a remake or a remastering, or a fade-out starting at 1:17, should remedy that.

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

agreed. I'm glad you dig this. I'm still looking for the original work file for this so I can fix it up. But yeah, I put play things in my other profile. Also, other genres that I make. Black-cloak-of-night is my other profile name. I hardly get visitors there, so pop by, there are some original riffs there and whatnot...even a remake of the "scatman" song. hahaha.

Thanks for the review, dude. Kick ass.

R E S P E C T !

I've heard both the initial and the current version. This one is better vocalized and sounds far superior to the original. Few songs that people re-do can be considered a perfect improvement over its original (save DemonSlayer12's "Nightmare" songs). This thing ought to inspire someone to Collab and make a music video, it's that good. It sounds like a pro studio work, because it is, pro.

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

Thanks man, I have ONE more version coming, actually. ONe more. I think I'll work on it today, actually....I have some free time. HOLY SHIT!!! I HAVE FREE TIME!!!

And once more...its awesome to see a fan of Demonslayer12's. He's much the reason I started getting back into music, in 2005.

Thanks again dude!!

Grim and Good as is (Burtonian)

This stands by itself as excellent background music... very Burtonian in terms of being an instrumental. No vokills or additional tracks are necessary as it exists perfectly as a mood piece, particularly as part of a movie soundtrack. Again, the Audio Portal was originally designed for Flash developers in mind so they wouldn't have to pour so much licensed material into their submissions; fair use is the preferred way to go since, as a result of their efforts, the musicians also acquire some much-needed and well-deserved notoriety.

But put that aside and we have a nice, grim piece. I did, however, detect the volume levels as dissipating from the beginning to the end... just a little, nothing to kill its overall ambience and perhaps only to add to it. Like I said, this reminds me of some of Cliff Burton's material when his contributions made Metallica's early material so memorable. Consider that a compliment of the greatest caliber (though I'm always partial considering my dad used to play bass).

MindOverMatt responds:

What an excellently detailed review! I kinda see the piece in the same way, as a depressing short instrumental. Eventually I would like to get some layers on it, just to heighten the ambience. And if this were to get used in a flash, I would be flattered. I do apologize for the volume levels. Chances are, I'm going to increase the volume a bit and repost it very soon. Also, the comparisons to Mr. Burton are incredibly encouraging. Ah, the power of a positive review! By the way, your dad sounds like a cool dude! But thank you so much for your listen and this awesome review. Metal,
Matt

Mean as Fuck, but Quite True

Okay, now if you broke into the music industry, most of your gangsta ghetto spoofs would be on the B-Side as novelty songs... ON EACH AND EVERY ALBUM!

Little history behind these low-hanging jeans that are, in fact, an affront to tasteful fashion: in prison, they remove your belts and other long straps and shoelaces and everything that could lead to someone's baneful suicide via hanging or asphyxiation (or as weapons to subjugate guards or other prisoners). Hence, your pants, if you lose weight, will be low-hanging. When stories spread, the underclass adopted the look as contemporary street fashion, and presto. Anybody who knows the history behind certain ghetto fashions won't even have to pick on them via a funny novelty rap from who is obviously best-suited toward heavy metal. At least someone will consider making a music video out of this one....

And yeah, in addition to trying to rap on the first playback, I voted 5....

4.33 / 5.00 (+ 0.025)

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

Haha, thanks man. Thanks for the history behind them. Makes sense.
I was thinking of making a fun video for this, but I"m so lazy. haha.
Thanks for the awesome review!\m/

Please Never Ever Stop Playing Guitar, Never Stop!

First of all, even a song this short needed vocals, but this guy put more than what a nine minute-long song would have. That's okay--the more, the merrier (as long as he doesn't trip on his words!) I always say--so what else is new?

Well, I don't know, but maybe the bass could use some extra chunk. It's just a personal preference. Not to nit-pick, but the biggest strength, those excellent melodic rhythms, might be hiding something.

Now, this guy is just plain awesome. There are a few trips on his words, just to make sure his voice is consistently harsh. However, the lyrics are just plain psycho--very reminiscent of (and I feel like such a fucking game geek for bringing this one out) Delita Hyral from Final Fantasy Tactics, or perhaps the creeps he allegedly serves--and since the song loops without any struggle, it makes for the best damned melodramatic boss fighting music, like if someone around the portal designed an online-ready 2D fighting game with medieval fantasy themes... then this would be the Black Fell Knight Motherfucker final boss character.

Overall, there isn't much to complain about, and even if there was, we're too busy headbanging to the song without realizing that it loops flawlessly and transforms the thing into twenty minutes of migraine joy. Excellent work.

Eternalreich responds:

Wow dude what an awesome review dude. I agree that schlief is a fucking psycotic ass singer and this fucking two minute song has crazy long lyrics and they work. He just never stops singing, it's pretty metal.

As for the bass, there is none. It needs it and better drum production. Maybe someone can add some bass to it. And a FF tactics reference is totally cool with me man, that is one of the best games ever.

Thanks for the killer view!

So Finish Aleady....

It loops perfectly and so far it has the workings of a main menu death metal melodic style screaming through every note. If you finish this soon, then I can conjure up something that would best use every last note of its brilliance, because it is brilliant already.

Excellent work so far... some sections could use some more emphasis as the guitar work does bleach the background away just a little. The performance is solid but the balance just seems a little off. If you make the synthesizer a little meatier and change up the drum programming (or make new drum tracks if you use real drums), then this should start to shine a little more clearly.

Eternalreich responds:

Cool dude i hope to get with viceshark soon for a totally revamped version with better mixing, riffing n whatnot. I kinda drowned the synths out a little with my guitars but the drums wouldn't have been loud enough if i didn't. I just recorded over his song as a demo fer him n shit. And some drum variation would be for the better. Well see what happens.

I would love to be involved in the music for a good flash, new creation or otherwise. Keep me in mind duder!

When one is drained of all humor, anything beautiful is met with one of two things: disdainful worry or worrisome disdain. Anything ugly is met with violence. Flash is complex and beautiful, not a toy. Keep that in mind... or things get ugly real quick.
